Hide apps while screen sharing
Sharing your screen in Teams, Zoom or Meet means sharing everything: the Slack window with a private DM, the browser tab with your bank — even the taskbar and the tray tell a story. Microsoft's own answer to "how do I hide my Teams chat while presenting?" is essentially share a single window instead. That works — until you need to switch apps mid-demo.
Option 1: share a single window (built-in)
Every meeting tool lets you share one window instead of the whole desktop. It's the safest built-in option, with known limits: you can't switch apps without re-sharing, pop-ups from other apps may still be captured on some setups, and your taskbar and notifications remain visible whenever you share the full screen.
Option 2: hide the sensitive apps entirely (gohide)
gohide takes a simple, robust approach: before (or during) the share, press one hotkey and the apps you selected are gone — window, taskbar button and tray icon. A hidden window can't appear in any capture, because it isn't on the screen at all. Press the hotkey again after the call and everything returns exactly where it was.
- Works with any meeting or recording tool — Teams, Zoom, Meet, OBS — because nothing app-specific is involved.
- The taskbar is clean too: no suspicious buttons or tray icons in your shared screen.
- Add mute while hidden so a hidden app can't ping mid-presentation, or suspend it so it can't do anything at all.
One honest difference from capture-filter tools: some utilities keep a window visible to you while excluding it from the capture. gohide's model is simpler — hidden means hidden, for everyone including you — which is exactly what you want for apps you're not actively using during the call.
gohide applies the other model in exactly one place: its own window. With Ghost Mode (Pro), gohide stays on your screen but out of the shared screen, so you can hide or bring back an app mid-call without the meeting seeing gohide at all.
Before your next call
- Download gohide — free for up to 3 apps, no account.
- Add your chat apps and personal browser to gohide's list.
- Assign a hide/show hotkey — one keystroke before you hit "Share screen".
Free vs Pro
Everything above works in the free edition, for up to 3 apps and with no time limit. gohide Pro adds unlimited apps, process suspend, the privacy cover, dynamic rules, mouse and hot-corner triggers and a PIN lock for Settings — a one-time purchase with free updates, no subscription. See pricing.
