gohide is built to respect your privacy. This policy explains what the gohide desktop app and the gohide website do and don't collect.
The desktop app
The gohide application contains no telemetry. It does not track how you use it, does not send analytics, and does not require an account. Which apps you hide, and how you use gohide, never leave your PC. The free edition makes no network requests of its own while you use it.
The app goes online only in the following cases, each triggered by something you do:
- Activating Pro: activation itself is offline — on the website you turn your license key and this PC's fingerprint into a signed license file, then import it in the app; the app makes no network request for this. The fingerprint is a set of truncated SHA-256 hashes of hardware identifiers — the raw identifiers never leave your machine.
- License renewal: the license file is valid for one year. Before it expires, the app silently renews it, sending only the machine id and the same fingerprint — no usage data. Staying offline doesn't cut you off immediately: there is a 60-day grace period after expiry, after which the PC needs to go online once, or you generate a fresh license file on the website.
- Removing a license: when you remove a license in the app, the server is told to release the seat this device was using.
- Checking for updates: off by default. When enabled, or when you click "Check for updates", the app requests version information from dl.gohide.net.
Like any network request, the requests above carry your IP address; we use it only to complete licensing and to protect against abuse.
The website
This website may use privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics to understand traffic (page views and referrers). It does not sell your data or build advertising profiles.
Downloads
When you download gohide from this website, our server records the download time, your IP address, and your browser's user-agent. We use this only to measure download volume and to protect against abuse — not to build advertising profiles, and we never sell it.
Purchases
When you buy gohide Pro, payment is handled by our payment processor. They receive the information needed to complete the transaction (such as billing details). We receive confirmation that an order was paid and the email address used, so we can deliver your license key. We never store full payment credentials (card or account numbers).
Support
If you email support, we keep your message and email address only as long as needed to help you.
