ホットキー

Hotkeys are what make gohide fast: they're registered system-wide, so they work even when gohide is just a tray icon and another app is focused.

Types of hotkey

  • Per-app toggle — hides/shows one specific managed app. Assign one per app.
  • Hide all — the boss-key action: hides every managed app at once. Default: Ctrl + Alt + H.
  • Panic restore-all — instantly shows every app gohide has hidden. Your safety net. Default: Ctrl + Alt + Shift + H.
  • Summon gohide — brings the gohide window to the front from anywhere. Default: Ctrl + Alt + G. (Double-clicking the tray icon also toggles the window.)
  • Hide gohide itself — sends the gohide window back to the tray. Default: Ctrl + Alt + Shift + G.

All defaults can be changed in Settings.

Assigning a hotkey

  1. In the main window, find the app's row and open its hotkey control.
  2. Press the key combination you want (for example, Ctrl + Alt + H).
  3. It's saved immediately and works globally from that point on.

Pick combinations that other apps don't already use. gohide will tell you if a combination can't be registered because another program owns it.

Recommended setup

  • Give your most-hidden app a memorable per-app toggle like Ctrl + Alt + W (Ctrl + Alt + H is taken by Hide all out of the box).
  • Learn the panic restore-all default — it brings back everything in one press, so you can hide aggressively without worrying about losing a window.
  • Keep the summon hotkey handy so you can reach gohide without hunting for the tray icon.

Good to know

Hotkeys keep working after the app you hid has been suspended, and after a restart if gohide is set to start with Windows. If a hotkey ever stops responding, see Troubleshooting.
