gohide hides other running applications — their windows, taskbar buttons, and system-tray icons — and brings them back instantly with a hotkey. This guide gets you from download to your first hidden app in a couple of minutes.
1. Download and run
Grab the single Windows package from the Download page — it runs natively on x64 and via emulation on ARM64, with tray hiding covered on x64, ARM64 and x86. Unzip it anywhere and run gohide.exe. Windows will ask for administrator rights — gohide needs them to control other apps' windows and tray icons. Approve the prompt.
A gohide icon appears in your system tray, and the main window opens showing the apps currently running on your desktop. Double-click the tray icon any time to show or hide the gohide window.
2. Choose apps to manage
The main window lists each app that owns a visible window, plus tray-only apps. Tick the checkbox next to any app you want gohide to manage. On the free tier you can manage up to three apps at once; Pro removes the limit.
3. Hide and show
Select a managed app and use its row controls to hide or show it, or assign a global hotkey so you can toggle it from anywhere — even when gohide is minimized to the tray. See Hotkeys for the full list.
When you hide an app, its windows and its tray icon disappear together. Press the hotkey again (or use Show all) and everything returns exactly where it was.
4. Optional: what happens while hidden
In an app's options you can choose what a hidden app does in the background:
- Mute while hidden (free) — a hidden video or game goes silent, and gets its sound back when restored.
- Suspend while hidden (Pro) — gohide freezes the process so a hidden game or heavy app stops using CPU and GPU entirely, and resumes it the instant you restore it.
Pro also offers a privacy cover screen: the moment you press "Hide all", a
full-screen image (or a plain dark screen) covers the desktop. Press Esc or the
restore hotkey to drop it. Enable it in Settings.
